Meet the Team

The Partners

Karen Jones

Karen joined Park Issa as a vet in 1984. She mainly looks after the companion animal side of the practice and has a special interest in Cardiology. Karen has recently undertaken a Certificate in Small Animal Medicine.

Outside of work, Karen takes part in triathlons as a hobby and enjoys campervan holidays with her husband and dogs Flo and Molly.

 

RANDOM FACT: Karen enjoys outdoor swimming.  Her favourite place to swim is in Dearnford Lake.


Chris Kirtley

Chris qualified from Liverpool University in 1988 and has been at Park Issa since 1995. As a mixed animal vet he splits his time between farms and companion animals. Chris recently gained the GP Certificate in Small Animal Surgery and is now studying for the GP Certificate in Ophthalmology, a subject he is very interested in.

Outside of work he enjoys walking his dogs, cycling and horse riding.

 

RANDOM FACT: Chris enjoys tandem cycling while on holiday with his partner.


The Vets

Hans Veneklaas Slots

Hans joined the practice in 2005 and is mainly working on the farm animal side. He particularly enjoys lambing time and doing fertility work in cattle.

When he is not working he enjoys gardening and birdwatching.

 

RANDOM FACT: Hans dug out his own wildlife pond using only a spade.


Lucy Tubbs

Lucy graduated from Edinburgh University in 2007 and has been with Park Issa ever since. She is mainly out on farm and loves calving and lambing time but enjoys occasional small animal work to escape the dreaded TB testing.

In her spare time Lucy enjoys walking and cycling in the countryside as well as travelling, baking and reading. However, she can often be found feeding calves, milking cows or measuring grass on her partner’s dairy farm. Lucy has a rescue cat, 2 sheep and half a dozen dairy cows.

 

RANDOM FACT: Lucy has a chainsaw qualification and used to work in forestry.


Zoe Mitchell

zoe vet newZoe joined the practice in October 2014. Originally from West Sussex, she went to University of Edinburgh and is now well settled in Oswestry. Zoe works with both farm animals and small animals and is particularly interested in young stock health and management as well as rabbit medicine.

Outside of work she is an active member of Whittington and Oswestry Young Farmers and loves competing in their yearly drama performances. She also enjoys walking her dogs Pip and Max.

 

RANDOM FACT: Zoe is trained in both musical theatre and Saxophone.


Linda Woolley

Linda qualified from Liverpool University in 1983 and joined Park Issa in 1993. She works on the small animal side of the practice and has a keen interest in small animal surgery especially orthopaedic surgery.  Linda has attended surgical master classes in thoracic and urinary incontinence surgery, and has a post graduate certificate in radiography.

Linda lives on a small holding, with horses, sheep, cats and dogs. In her spare time she enjoys horse riding, skiing, painting and playing the piano.

 

RANDOM FACT: Linda first came to Park Issa for her work experience when she was just 14 years old.

 

 


Lucy Jones

Lucy qualified at Glasgow University in 1991. She worked in North Wales and Staffordshire, gaining a certificate in Small Animal Surgery. She has worked part time at Park Issa since August 2000. When not working she enjoys time on the vegetable plot or spending time with her children and their various hobbies. She has one lively collie, Bobby, and two lovely cats Kitty and Wotsit.

 

RANDOM FACT: Lucy is a keen gardener and loves growing her own fruit and vegetables.


Kim Holliday

kimKim joined the practice in October 2016. She works mainly on the farm side but does enjoy her work with the small animals as well. Kim comes from a sheep farming background so particularly enjoys lambing time.

As well as being a vet (which takes up most of her time) Kim enjoys travelling the world, recently visiting South Africa. In her spare time Kim likes to bake and also likes going to the gym to work off her baking efforts.

 

RANDOM FACT: Kim is a keen horse rider and when horses are not available has been known to ride water buffalo.


Rachel Woolley

Rachel qualified from Nottingham University in 2018 however she has been a regular at Park Issa throughout her training so knows many of us (staff and clients) already.

Rachel works with both small and large animals and grew up on a local dairy farm. She has a special interest in flock health and small animal surgery.

In her spare time Rachel enjoys helping her partner with his pheasants and competing at BE on her lovely grey mare Bally.

 

RANDOM FACT: Rachel once rode for the Pony Club Mounted Games Great Britain Team competing in Kentucky and they won.


Becca Dodd

Becca qualified from Nottingham University in 2018 and came to work here at Park Issa. She works with both small and farm animals and enjoys the variety of a mixed practice. Becca has a special interest in the nutrition of farm animals and herd/flock health and even has a second degree in Animal Science.

In her spare time Becca is looking forward to exploring the local welsh countryside as where she comes from is very flat.  She also has a new dog called Ozzy who will be going with her.

 

RANDOM FACT: Becca spent 6 months in Canada between degrees helping to set up a community garden for Autistic Young Adults.


The Nurses

Head Nurse Michelle Davies RVN

Michelle joined Park Issa in January 2005 and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2008, stepping up to Head Nurse in 2009. She is a trained Pet Health Counsellor, Pet Insurance Advisor and is also a clinical coach for our student nurses. Michelle has a keen interest in wildlife. In her spare time Michelle enjoys shopping, listening to music and spending time with her dogs.

 

RANDOM FACT: Michelle is fluent in the Welsh Language.


Emma Manford RVN

Emma joined the practice in 2008 as a trainee Veterinary Nurse. She became a qualified Veterinary Nurse from Myerscough College in January 2012. Emma loves all types of animals, and enjoys helping out at her mum’s boarding kennels, walking her dogs and generally helping out! Emma also enjoys spending time at home with her beautiful daughter, Harriet, cat, Annie and dog, Snoop Dogg.

 

RANDOM FACT: Snoop is famous as a video of him rocking Harriet went viral.


Vikki Lewis RVN

Vikki officially joined the team in 2012 following the completion of her degree at Harper Adams University. Since qualifying Vikki has gone on to become a trained Petplan advisor, diabetes advisor and a clinical coach. Vikki hopes to continue to train new nurses as well as learning more about Veterinary Physiotherapy.

When not working Vikki enjoys spending time with her three nieces and nephew, her border collie Ben and her cat Trixie. Vikki also helps out on her partner’s dairy farm, where she enjoys helping with milking but also enjoys naming the cows.

 

RANDOM FACT: Vikki was born with Bilateral Talipes, also known as Club Feet.


Alice Pringle RVN

Alice joined the team at Park Issa in February 2017 after locuming here. She loved the staff and clients so much that she agreed to stay :). She enjoys all aspects of the job but particularly enjoys working with cats and can often be found in the cat kennels playing with our inpatients.

In her free time Alice enjoys spending time with her two children especially going with them to their karate classes and watching  them horse riding.

 

RANDOM FACT: Alice is also a trained graphic designer.


Adele Wilson RVN

Adele joined Park Issa (again) in January 2018 after working for the veterinary investigation centre. She began her veterinary nursing training here in June 1999. Adele particularly enjoys working in the in-house lab and meeting all our clients during nurse clinics. She also has a keen interest in training the student nurses.

In her spare time Adele enjoys spending time with her family and keeping fit especially running.

 

RANDOM FACT: Adele started her career as a trainee veterinary nurse at Park Issa Vets in 1999 and won the Student Veterinary Nurse of the Year at Myerscough College in 2000.

 

 

 


Leah Jones RVN

leahLeah joined the team at Park Issa in 2015 and started her training to be a veterinary nurse in August 2015. During her time here she has become a trained Petplan advisor and is a First Aider. Leah particularly enjoys kitten and puppy chats, helping the newest member of your family to settle in.

Outside of work Leah enjoys open water swimming and socialising with family and friends.

 

RANDOM FACT: Leah’s dog Quinn has her own life jacket for open water swimming with her owner.


Georgia Rodgers SVN

Georgia joined our nursing team in October 2016 as our newest student veterinary nurse. She has worked with animals since leaving college and decided to follow her passion into nursing.

Georgia enjoys working with all the animals that come into the practice but has a soft spot for dogs and has 3 beautiful dogs herself, a Chocolate Labrador called Ted, a Basset Hound called Nelly and a German Pointer called Holly.

In her spare time she enjoys working on her partners family farm, and the occasional holiday abroad. Georgia enjoys horse riding and long walks with her dogs.

 

RANDOM FACT: Georgia’s dog Holly has epilepsy.


April Wallace SVN

April joined us in July 2017 with a Level 3 Diploma in Animal Management and started her training as a veterinary nurse at Rodbaston College. She has always loved caring for animals and since joining us has developed a keen interest in ‘in-patient’ care helping to rehabilitate the pets we see.

While not in work April cares for her menagerie of animals which includes peacocks, dogs, chickens and cats. She also enjoys socialising with friends and tinkering with her car.

 

RANDOM FACT: April has a twin brother who is 2 minutes younger.


Stephanie Smith SVN

Steph joined us in September 2017 with a degree in Animal Science and started training to become a veterinary nurse at Rodbaston College. She has a special interest in animal behaviour and ethics, and enjoys the nurse appointments about behaviour the most.

In her spare time Steph is a keen photographer and takes her camera with her everywhere (except work!). She loves travelling and plans to buy a canal boat with her partner Adam so they can explore Britain together.

 

RANDOM FACT: Steph designs and hand makes resin keyrings to preserve the hair of our pet family.


Hannah Clark SVN

Hannah is currently studying a Veterinary nursing and practice management course at Harper University. She is at Park Issa for a year placement. She enjoys all aspects of nursing but has a particular interest in radiography and nurse consultations.

In her spare time she enjoys going to the gym and the cinema as well as cooking. She also loves her animals (all rescues) including 2 guinea pigs Rosie and Lily, her rabbit Geraldine, Theo the Saluki and Jack the cat.

 

RANDOM FACT: Hannah is on the Harper Adams university rowing team, competing against other universities.


Charlotte Cooper

Charlotte joined the Park Issa team in March 2017 as a Veterinary Care Assistant. She has always had a passion for animals and has worked with them in many different jobs including 5 years with the RSPCA. Charlotte especially enjoys giving the animals extra attention after operations making sure that they are comfortable after a procedure.

In her spare time Charlotte loves spending time with her gorgeous daughter Penny and play dates with Harriet and Emma. Charlotte often takes part in fun runs and enjoys (or so she says) going to the gym.

 

RANDOM FACT: Charlotte lived in Germany for a year with her husband.


Bev Smith

Bev joined Park Issa in 2018 as a Veterinary Care Assistant after completing her qualifications. Bev has enjoyed learning all aspects of her job and especially enjoys meeting all the daily challenges of working in a vets.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, loves baking for her husband and son (and us) as well as walking her 3 whippets, Flint, Holly and Sam.

 

RANDOM FACT: Before pursuing a career in the veterinary field Bev worked as a Police officer for 11 years.


The Receptionists - Oswestry

Kerry Rigby

kerry recep newKerry joined the practice in May 1986. Although she mainly works in accounts she enjoys her time spent on the small animal reception desk every morning and her chats with the farmers whilst serving them. Kerry is often found organising and taking part in events to raise money for charities, especially Mental Health Research UK, with our yearly Blooming Monday in memory of Mark Robinson M.R.C.V.S.

When not at work Kerry enjoys travelling around the UK and Europe on her Honda Goldwing 1800cc and walking her amazing dog Maddie.

 

RANDOM FACT: Kerry is currently learning British Sign Language and practices at work.


Carol Jones

carol recep newCarol joined the practice in 2001 after 25 years of sheep and dairy farming. Although very knowledgeable about farming she works on the small animal reception and particularly enjoys cuddling the wonderful puppies that come in to the practice.

When not in work Carol is often found supporting the Widnes Vikings rugby team, and is a proud owner of a season ticket, following the club both home and away.  As well as being a massive fan of Rugby League, Carol also enjoys hill walking and swimming. Carol has a border collie called Floss and two cats, Nessa and George.

 

RANDOM FACT: Carol was a veterinary nurse in Leeds for 6 1/2 years before moving to Oswestry.


Paula Beattie

Paula joined the team in 2012. She works in accounts, on both the small animal and large animal receptions. When not at work Paula loves spending time with her son, two horses, Tango and Alfie and her two sheep Doris and Betty, as well as her cat Wilson.

 

RANDOM FACT: Paula has an honours degree in Religious Studies.


Sara Binyon

Sara joined Park Issa in 2013. Since being at the practice Sara has enjoyed the way her job role has developed and has a particular interest in social media and the website. Sara really enjoys seeing the animals that come in to the practice, especially the cats, and is often referred to by her colleagues as the “crazy cat lady”.

When not at work Sara loves spending time with her five cats Lucifer, Mortisha, Ares, Pestilence and Joker(and is always happy to show photos of them). Sara also loves to read and has a book collection of well over 500 books, and enjoys going to the cinema.

 

RANDOM FACT: Sara has three tattoos and is in the planning stages of a back piece and sleeve.


Carole Parry

Carole joined Park Issa in September 2017 and works on the small animal reception. Carole particularly enjoys meeting the clients and their pets and is always willing to cuddle any puppies that come in.

When not at work Carole enjoys reading, crochet and walking her lovely dog Archie.

 

RANDOM FACT: Carole is a match day CCTV operator for Shrewsbury Town Football Club.


Marie Cookman

Marie is the newest member of the reception team joining us in December 2017 and has a special interest in business just recently completing her BA (hons) Business Degree. She is a MCMI (member of chartered management institute).

In her spare time Marie likes to go to the theatre and the cinema as well as spending time with her two children.

 

RANDOM FACT: Marie enjoys cross stitching as a form of relaxation.


The Receptionists - New Foundry

Becky Jones

beckyBecky joined Park Issa in 2009 and works at the New Foundry branch. Whilst working in Johnstown Becky enjoys the wide variety of clients that she meets with their pets.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and going for days out with her children. Becky also supports Liverpool Football Club going with her partner to watch them.

 

RANDOM FACT: Becky is a qualified hairdresser.


Julie Price

Jules became one of our reception team in January 2016 and is based in our New Foundry branch.

She enjoys spending time with her family and when she is able she likes to get her hands dirty doing a spot of gardening, where her cat Ralph keeps one eye on her and his other eye on the 25 fish in their pond.

 

RANDOM FACT: Jules owns and drives an original 1944 Willys MB Jeep which she helped restore with her fiancé. They often attend Charity events with it for Help the Heroes and the Poppy Appeal.


Chris Cooke

CHRIS COOKEChris joined Park Issa in 2015, to start he worked at Park Issa on a Saturday but has since started working at the New Foundry branch as a receptionist. Chris is an active environmental campaigner and in his spare time can be found walking around Duddleston with his cat Ollie.

 

RANDOM FACT: Chris’ first dog “Chang” was found as a stray in South Africa, in 1984 by his mother.
